on the importance of discomfort

diary : april 2025

Note: This was written one month ago. I am not the same person since then.

Last week, I I was talking to a friend about how they could not survive in any form of lifestyle that is not adjacent to their upper-middle class suburban one. Coincidentally, I had finally finished binging the new season of The White Lotus. The relevance was an almost perfect match with the story of Piper, a privileged, wealthy white college kid out on vacation with her family under the guise of interviewing a Thai monk for her thesis. She had an incessant need to prove to her family how she was different and therefore better than them because she did not crave material pleasures and possessions. That storyline crescendoed into her admitting it was all pretense, and that she indeed was a ‘princess’ who needed her comfortable lifestyle as much as her orthodox and vain mother did.

There seems to be an epidemic of convenience in our society, and we care not

Bitches be like “But I need my fat-free lactose-free, artificial growth hormone-free ultra pasteurized ultra-filtered H-E-B Mootopia milk with 13g protein per serving, I can’t survive without it!”I’m bitches

Here is what I did this month:

  • Sang the wicked song to win bingo at work
  • helped a peacock baby pass the street
  • built a secret Mac app to serve as a private ollama client
  • received my first steroid shot in my AC joint
  • hung out with little baby goats at the Maricopa county fair
  • raised pepper, pea and sunflower saplings
  • ate a humongous 2 lb Cabo Bob’s burrito for the first time
  • got soup on the house at a new Chinese restaurant because the owner loved me
  • hit 15% body fat for the first time in a year
  • got me and my friends free popcorn at Sinners (rizzler alert)
  • got absolutely wrecked playing R.E.P.O. with friends
  • tried pottery for the first time
  • saw Caleb Hearon live, he’s a funny dude

almost forgot this is the whole point
